Amlapitta (hyperacidity / GERD) in Ayurveda is a Pitta disorder where excess sour, hot and sharp qualities accumulate in the stomach and oesophagus. Unlike antacids which suppress stomach acid, Ayurvedic treatment corrects the underlying Pitta imbalance and restores healthy Agni — providing lasting relief without dependency.

Treatment focuses on Pitta pacification through cooling, alkaline herbs (Shatavari, Yashtimadhu, Amalaki), dietary corrections (avoiding triggers), and in chronic cases, Virechana (therapeutic purgation) to remove excess Pitta from the liver and GI tract. Shaman (palliative) therapy is used for mild-moderate cases; Shodhana (purification) for severe or long-standing GERD.
