Addiction (Vyasana in Ayurveda) is described as a Rajas-Tamas disorder of the Manas, where the mind loses its Sattvic clarity and becomes dependent on external substances for temporary pleasure (Sukha). The physical addiction creates Ama in the Rasa Dhatu and disturbs Prana Vata and Sadhaka Pitta (the psychological-emotional Pitta). Ayurveda addresses both the physical craving and the psychological root simultaneously.
Addiction — whether to tobacco, alcohol, or other substances — creates deep Ama deposits in the Rasa Dhatu and disrupts the natural Prana-Ojas balance. Withdrawal symptoms are essentially a Vata aggravation crisis. Ayurveda manages withdrawal through Vata-pacifying therapies, eliminates accumulated toxins through Panchakarma, and rebuilds Ojas and Satva through Rasayana and Sattvavajaya Chikitsa.
The de-addiction protocol works in three phases: Withdrawal management through Vata-calming therapies; Shodhana (elimination of accumulated toxins) through Panchakarma; and Rasayana-Sattvavajaya (mental rejuvenation and Satva building) for sustained sobriety.
Our BAMS specialists will assess your prakriti and recommend the right protocol for you.
