Vamana — Therapeutic Emesis

Vamana is a classical Ayurvedic therapeutic emesis procedure — one of the five Panchakarma actions — that eliminates excess Kapha dosha and accumulated toxins from the upper body through controlled, medically supervised purging. It is considered the most powerful detox for Kapha-dominant conditions.

Vamana is performed over three phases spanning several days. The body is first prepared with internal oleation (Snehana) and fomentation (Swedana) to loosen deep-seated toxins and bring them to the digestive tract. On the day of Vamana, the patient consumes medicated decoctions that induce controlled therapeutic vomiting under close physician supervision.
